  • Although there appears to be a lot of wear, the wire breaks appear to be from fatigue. Possibly from forcing the rope into reverse bends in the reeving system, or possibly you just need a more flexible rope. Instead of 6 x 19, try a 7 x 26 or a 6 x 37 construction.

  • A little late but ... @jackkoon : It looks like swaged / compacted rope, in which case, the flattened outsides would be normal. Compacted rope is often used to resist flattening and wear when rolling over sheaves and the like.

  • well, there´s your problem.

  • ive seen a 7/8 skyline on a yarder missing a 300 foot strand. they just wrapped a new one in and tucked the ends. what you should really worry about is the cable rusting from the inside out.. it happens and you cant always see it.

  • Nicht sprechen sie deutsche. Really though, that rope looks like it's been crushed past it's service life anyways and you're pointing out the broken strands... it's like pointing out the nail in a flat tire after the treads ripped off. Either way though, that rope is tore up. Is that what happens when you don't lubricate your rope and then the salty air? Looks like thick ocean water, not thin lake water. Lake water doesn't swell like ocean water but nice video.
