the more often you change your oil the better. every time your engine runs more and more sludge and particulates build up causing engine wear. when you change your oil it cleans the gunk out. so yes, changing your oil does help
most auto experts and car manufacturers do not reccomend the 3000 mile interval oil change. The standard for most vehicles today is 5000miles, and with many new cars, using synthetic oil, the interval jumps to 10,000. Why would the manufacturer reccomend doing that if it wasn't the best thing for the car? the cars of today are very different than the cars of 30 years ago
