His only charter in the USA was She's My Girl, but in my opinion this was a much better record. Unfortunately it got released in America right around the time Petula Clark's "Downtown" was released. This one got ignored by radio. It should've been a top 40 hit. I don't believe it's even been reissued on cd anywhere, either (at least not legitimately). I'm wild about this record, I'm sure some of you out there will dig this as much as I do! The flipside of this one is just killer as well and I will post it at a later time. I also have no idea who Bobby Shafto was, but I can only assume that was not his real name. He had several singles on the Rust label in the USA, and plenty more on Parlophone in the UK. You can hear killer tunes like this one live every night on www.topshelfoldies.com!

  • Bobby's real name is Robert ( Bob) Farrant, He used to live in Nth. London. I hope he is still around.

  • Lots of fun! Yes, you're right! He probably had other stage names if this didn't launch him in to stardom! It really should have too!

  • Very cool record and I love your liner notes!

  • Greetings from Peru.... can you send me the lyric of this song ?

    Thanks

  • Has this been released a year earlier in late 1963 . . . it definitely would've been a huge hit . . . but the musical trends were changing so rapidly that by the time this was released (around October 1964) it was already sounding dated alongside the new upstarts like the Kinks and the Animals.

Nonetheless a great catchy tune and production.
