Ghatta Ghan Gor Gor more machaey shore morey sajan aaja Khursheed Bano (Irshad Begum) old hindi punjabi indian music song classical saigal kl
Singer : KhursheedBano
Khursheed Bano (April 14, 1914 - April 18, 2001) was an Pakistani singer & actress, and a pioneer of the Indian cinema. Her career ran through the 1930s and 1940s.

She was born Irshad Begum in the village of Choonian Distt, Lahore (in British India, later Pakistan).

Khursheed Bano started her film career as Shehla in the silent film "Eye For An Eye" (1931) the year when the first talkie film (Alamara) of the sub-continent was released. Some of the films that were released during these phase were Laila Majnu, and Shakuntla in 1931, Chatra Bakavli, Hatili Dulhan, Muflis Aashiq, Radheshyam in 1932, Naklee Doctor in 1933, Suarag ki Serhi, Bomb Shell, Chiragh-e-Husn, and Mirza Sahiban in 1935. Ailan-e-Jang, Kimiagar in 1936. Iman Farosh in 1937, Madhur Milan in 1938. Murad, Kaun kisi ka and Sitara in 1939.

She worked in a lot of films like Bhagat Surdas, Holi, Chandani, Musafir, Aage Badho, Moorti and Mumtaz Mahal, the film that was landmark in her career and made her name immortal was Tansen (1943) with K.L Saigal, where she played the character of Tani. Tansen is one of the most significant scores of that era and still remembered for songs like Diya Jalaao, More Baalpan ke saathi, Ghata Ghanghor Machaave Shor.

Her last film in India was Papeeha Re (1948), which was a great hit, prior to her migration to Pakistan, leaving her mark in the Indian film industry. Khursheed migrated to Pakistan after the Partition of India, with her husband and manager Lala Yakub, who was an occasional actor and member of the Bhati Gate Group, Lahore, where she settled down in Karachi, Sind, Pakistan.

She was among the two singing actresses of Mumbai Film-world who have shared stellar honors with the renowned singer K.L. Saigol. Surraiya, another popular singer/actress of the fortys and fiftys remains the only one now.

Listen to this beautiful song from Pardesi (1941) composed by Khemchand Ji which was a big big hit in those days.... Pahle Jo Muhabbat Se (Pardesi 1941)

Two developements caused a downfall in Khursheeds career.. The arrival of Noorjehan who dethroned Khursheed from the top spot and later the Partition, which made her to opt Pakistan as her residence and left India forever. She did a few films in Pakistan in mid 50s but could never attain the heights of early forties

Beautiful singer Khursheed bano died on April 18, 2001 in Karachi, four days after her 87th birthday.

  • with respect i request to remove the word Begum from title for two reasons. One, she was either known as khurshid or khurshid bano throughout her career and secondly Pak also had 2 singers by name of Khursheed Begum so the people may get misled. Thanx and keep up the gud work u r doing.

  • @lovehumanity Respected sir, I have corrected the error. Thank you very much for your guidance. I agree with you that she was called Khursheed Bano in her music/film career. Her original name was Irshad Begum.

    My best regards

  • I had been searching for this song for decades, I cant believe it I find it. I have heard Nayyara noor's version. Listening to original is so much more fun.

Thank you fro putting up here.

  • Nayyera Noor version of this song is also very excellent. It is really nice to see the singer performing as an actress in the film with Kundan Lal Saigal

    Regards

  • Once again khursheed has created magic in this song. There is no flaw in this song. Her beauty and singing ability are matchless. She lived to be 87 years old and died in Karachi as mrs.bhai Mia.

  • I am a typical, undereducated white guy from the american mid-west, I know nothing of indian music or culture outside of what I've culled, self-educating, over the years, but some musical sequences I heard as a child struck me and I've sang and created my own music since inspired by those sounds I heard from the east... I found this video/song a few years ago when I began using the internet and I honestly say it makes me truly happy. it continues to inspire. thank you so much for your post.

  • i am from pakistan and i love old movie songs, and this is nice song

  • Khursheed was the best female singer of the thirties and forties and probably up to today. She added a classical touch whenever allowed to do so, besides having great range, though she was seldom given the opportunity to show the high notes, probably due to mediocre composition of tunes.

  • Simply amazing to see the real clip ! Wow

  • Wonderful song and nice to see Khurshid and KL Saigal in this movie clip -- over and over again (for oldies like me)

  • beautiful voice and very pretty face...awesome!!

  • old is gold kisiee naa schach kha hay rat kie tanhaie ho old musis ho to sunnay ka lutaf ajata hay
