We just watched the Barry Levinson film where Tom Morello sand this (beautiful !) and my husband said the same thing...this would be a much more meaninful National Anthem. I wish that could happen.

No, Woodie Guthrie wasn't the original punk rocker. Have you ever heard of the IWW and Joe Hill, the wobblers. Joe Hill was a big inspiration for Woody Guthrie. Joe Hills real name was Joel Hägglund and he came from Sweden. If you want to know more about him and the IWW so search for Billy Bragg and Joe Hill. It's early american working class history.
