The Voice Coil Motor Positioning System is designed to allow direct coupling between the load and the drive motors. This feature eliminates backlash, allows for fast acceleration / deceleration, high speed operation while increasing the reliability. Stacking of multiple units allows for multi axis positioning.

  • What is the precision? I guess that not much because of the system

  • These units are available at one micron resolution as standard. Units with finer resolution can also be produced, using different grades of encoders and bearings.

  • whats the retail on this? or was it home made?

  • This item is available and is in production. You may find complete specifications, availability and pricing in the company website at moticont.com.

  • how about the force? is it strong enough to hold the spindle head on it job... ?

  • The peak force on this unit is about 20 Lbs. Larger unita are available as well.

  • I think this hasto be the smartest thing i have seen in a while

  • Was this part of a printer?

  • @dasraiser cool thanks for the info ,its appreciated.

  • @KeithWasHere1 indeed cheaper, get a bubble/jet printer and inside you can see an encoding strip and the reader, just count the on/offs and there you go, although the resolution may be ~300dpi,some maybe better.

  • Printer?

  • @moticont ok thanks!

  • @minifloat0 well its not hard to get stand along quadrature optical encoder systems, which you said this uses.and there are many position feedback control systems out there to choose from some with ultra high resolution some with low resolution its just depends on how much you want to put into it.

.yes the actual nuts and bolts of the system will have to have a high tolerance thats machining 101,but i still say it could be made alot cheaper and much more powerful and robust at home.
