In early spring in the mid 90s, a small group of Detroit area windsurfing friends booked a beach house on Hatteras Island on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Springtime intense low pressures form off the coast at Diamond Shoals, where the cold Labrador and warm Gulf Streams meet, sucking high velocity warm wind across the inter-coastal sounds. This condition prevailed and made for excellent sailing to say the least. The successful trip has now blossomed into an annual windsurfing/kiteboarding event, where up to 3 large beach houses have been booked solid by Detroit area saliors. These are clips from various trips, ending with clips from the top deck of the 6 bedroom Rodanthe Sound-front House, which we now rent every year.
