"Heaven's Blue(-ish)" (Call It Love Is Blue Mix).
The Glens Of Angus perform this re-vamped and re-modelled version of Billy MacKenzie's "Heaven's Blue" - an Associates track which originally only appeared as a wee snip of an instrumental on the B-side on the 1988 Temperament Mix 12" of "Heart Of Glass".
The Glens Of Angus play all the instruments on this version. No programming... except the drum machine. Great efforts have gone into generating authentic Stevie Reid guitar sounds from his Orbidoig/ Perhaps -era. The keyboard sounds are an attempt to reflect Billy's enthusiasm for the great pan-european synth washes on his Yello collaborations.
All recorded back in late 2005 on a four track cassette machine in a cottage at Inverquarity near Kirriemuir. A WEM Copycat was used to loop a wee riff from 1min 15 secs into a 1965 french (Paul Mauriat and his Orchestra) 7" instrumental called "Love Is Blue" in the middle bridge section. (The wee vinyl samples from Billy were dropped in on the final mixdown and no computers were used in making or mastering the music track.
It shows.
Images filmed in and around Auchterhouse and the Sidlaws.
Video by Splairgin Glit Productions. Thanks to Captain W and General S for sorting out the titling and fitting the elements together..
And to Mr MacKenzie - Thank you for the music.

  • The "screnery" is as it looked like around Kirktown of Auchterhouse, Tealing, Dronley, Lundie etc. back in March 2009 when the video was put together. For me one of the finest views on Earth is from the A923 when you crest the Sidlaws & look towards Blairgowrie. You can see from Ben Lawers & Schiehallion all the way across to the flatlands of Forfar. An April drive from Meigle to Kirrie on the B road by Cardean is a great joy with the daffs, primroses & hedges.

Cheer up David & learn to spell.

  • I guess that'll be the legendary phonebox/office/communications centre at 2:27 then?

  • @PrestwickRock Yes. That is the legendary William MacArthur MacKenzie Communications and Media Centre at Kirkton of Auchterhouse in the Sidlaw Hills outside Dundee. It doesn't take coins now.
