October 10, 2011 - SUN Charity and MQM Canada Thanksgiving Day Blood and Flood Donation Drives

Communication & Media Cell; Toronto, October 11th, 2011; MQM Canada's supported Sun Charity Thanksgiving Day Blood Drive and Red Cross Charity for the Flood victims of Pakistan ended with huge participation here in Toronto on October 10, 2011. Event was highly attended by the representatives of social and welfare organizations, political and religious organizations, print and media groups and dignitaries while a large number of people from all walks of life gathered to serve a noble cause at Jamia Islamia Mississauga, Ontario. As announced, volunteers of MQM Canada GTA Chapter, Central Organizer of MQM Canada, Iqbal Qamar, Joint Central Organizer, Office-bearers and Members of Central Organizing Committee were present at the location since early morning to organize the event and support Sun Charity and Red Cross in their activities. MQM Deputy Parliamentary Leader in the National Assembly of Pakistan, Syed Haider Abbas Rizvi who is officially visiting from Pakistan, exclusively attended the event and participated in charity work.

Since early morning, increasing crowd and long line ups were seen at the occasion. A mobile blood donor clinic of the Canadian Blood Services with about 10 staff members was setup at the location. Canadian Blood Services staff and the volunteers of Sun Charity and MQM were actively assisting people who were queued up and waiting for their turn. Turnout was amazingly more than expectation therefore the required quantity of blood was achieved before time while a large number of willing donors were advised to contact Canadian Blood Services in later dates.

A separate section of the vicinity was dedicated for Canadian Red Cross to collect donation for the Flood victims of Pakistan. A two member staff with printed literature and booklets was present at the service desk. Several information sessions were conducted for public awareness. A large number of people vigorously participated in the charity drive while a huge amount of donation was collected to support poor families affected by the devastation of recent wave of flood in Pakistan. Workers and office-bearers of MQM Canada fully supported this drive as well as put their share in the charity. Their act of human service and organization was highly appreciated.

The event was considered a successful event in terms of its attendance and achievements. People disregarding their cast, creed and culture gathered under one umbrella to serve the humanity. Participation of social and welfare organizations, political parties, religious groups, and media made it a memorable event for MQM and Sun Charity Canada. The central organizer of MQM Canada, Iqbal Qamar concluded the event with thanks to all participants and volunteers specially Mr. Sahebzada A. Khan, The Consul General of Pakistan Toronto, Maulana Asif Qasmi, Chairman of Jamia Islamia Mississauga, delegation of NDP Canada, all print and electronic media groups and political and welfare organizations on their participation and support of humanity. He further said that following the teachings of their leader Altaf Hussain, today MQM workers have displayed tremendous commitment towards the service of humanity. He also affirmed that MQM Canada will continue its support for SUN Charity humanitarian drives n future.

In the end, certificates of appreciation were given to SUN Charity and MQM volunteers for their excellent work. Those certificates were awarded by Canadian Blood Services and distributed by the hands of Deputy Parliamentary Leader of MQM, Syed Haider Abbas Rizvi.

Earlier speaking to media, The Central Organizer of MQM Canada, Iqbal Qamar said, "MQM is trying to set an example for Canadians of Pakistani decent. We are living in a beautiful mosaic society and we have to pass the message along that we have to give back to the society we're living in". He concluded his message with a beautiful statement that "We're doing two things here; we're giving money to the Pakistan flood victims and blood to the needy Canadians. Those are the only thing we can give, our blood and our money for support".
