@johanns1968 I saw that too. The verse wasn't set to the hymn until nearly 30 years after his death. I really enjoyed his message. But, then, discovered that... although powerfully delivered, his content lacked truth. Bummer.

Actually, everything he says in this video is factual and accurate. Do some real research and open your heart.. This is not about who wrote what song or what keys are played, it's about the change that God made in the heart of a man that once looked at other humans as "less than." John Newton is the man that put the words to the notes sung by the slaves in the ships, yes. But Jesus is the one who died for those words to be true. This video is about God's grace, a fact you need.

That man is full of shit.
Even after a cursory glance at what evidence there is to be found on the internet, I've come to the concludsion that almost everything this men states as an historical fact is false.
I purposely write 'almost' in case someone says 'You say he's lying when says he had a dog when he was 12 years of age. Because he did have a dog. But it died when he was 10, so don't say this man ain't telling the truth"

@gtgale what do you mean we are all in God's family. He had nothing to do with Hitler, Stalin,Marx,obama,clintons,Reid,pelosi,czars,ect...ect...ect... Unless they come to know Jesus as Lord and Savior. He doesn't
