Not really. The GOP still holds the majority in the house, governors, and in most states' local government. It wasn't "the majority of Americans" either. Odds are Romney would be president now if more Republican and Republican-leaning voters showed up at the polls, but many didn't bother because "Romney isn't conservative enough!!11" or "Ron Paul said he and Obama are the same so I won't vote".

Which isn't saying much, so I agree that Obama is nothing special. But he's better than anything the GOP has to offer.
