Skyward Sword's controls work just fine! I beat the game and Link is doing exactly what this guy is doing in the demonstration. Sometimes you just need to recalibrate the controller.

The only problem I really had playing this game, was whenever I needed to stab something. But other than that everything else was perfectly fine.

Actually, these problems exist. Jabbing hardly works when you want it to do. And the delay from swing to action in Wii remote can hinder you at times.

The controls would only mess up for me if you swung like a mad man for about a minute or if you tried to confuse it. I'm guessing that GameSpot did both of these. They aren't the most competent group.
