  • "Improv-ing"?! Gotta love Long Island...

  • Bucky keeping it real. For the interviewer: in Jazz, playing "out" means getting really wild, ignoring key centers, the melody, etc., and Bucky definitely doesn't do that -- he's more thematic when he improvises, keeping the spirit of the song and the melody always as the touchstone. What you're really referring to is when an improviser is inspired and inventive, but Bucky mistook what you were referring to as playing "out," so in a sense, he didn't answer your question!
