As my final project for my music composition course, I wrote original music to this scene from Harold Lloyd's silent film "Safety Last". Harold is trying to get away from a police officer by climbing a building...but he's having a little trouble, isn't he? The original scene is 20 minutes long, so I cut it down to 7 and a half. At about 6:45 into the clip, I used the song "Stumbling" by Zez Confrey. Enjoy.

Lloyd himself writes: "There was no back-projection in those days, of course, so when you see me climbing, I'm really climbing. We had platforms built below the skyscraper windows--they were about 10 to 15 feet below, covered with mattresses. After the picture, we dropped a dummy onto one of the platforms, and it bounced off into the street. I must have been crazy to do it." The only stunts not performed by Lloyd himself are the extreme long-shots, and those of him pole-swinging at the end.

Can't we watch a cool old classic flick without reactionaries using this as a soap-box for racism, homophobia and ultra-conservative tubthumping???

How about some impartial sources for that stuff you were putting out there Mr. Sunny; or do you expect us to take your word for it? For example, Blacks had better educations in the 1920's? You mean there were more Black college graduates in the 1920's? Gay dudes got Aids from intercourse with a monkey? How the hell is it that even possible? How many hours a day do you listen to Rush Limbaugh?

Oh, so we did have people dying from AIDS in the 1920s? And black children didn't perform better and at least as well as the white students before desegregation? And single motherhood isn't the biggest contributing factor to determine if someone will become a criminal? You need to do a little research, my friend. You are painfully unaware of not only history, but current events.

Not one thing you've listed is remotely true, except that yes, marriage rates in general have been declining steadily for decades.

Back then, we didn't have AIDS from gay dudes who were so bored with their own assholes they had to find a monkey and fuck it. And women bothered to raise their children, AFTER they got married to the father first. And black people had a higher marriage rate and better educations compared to now. Anything else you'd like to add?

I too lament the days when black people and women and homosexuals, and anyone else who wasn't white and lucky, knew their place.

Ah. A simpler time before the US was ruined by liberalism.
