Jose Ferrer was THE Cyrano for at least one generation of Americans. His 1950 Oscar-winning performance of Rostand's play features Brian Hooker's great translation, which was also used for Ferrer's Tony-winning, Broadway triumph run in the 1946-1947 season. Ferrer's acting might appear a little over the top for today's film-goers, but was terrific for mid-20th century. There are so many classic scenes in this movie; this clip includes two.
