As an intermediate player I took on a much higher ranked player on yahoo chess. Playing as black I counter white's opening pawn to e4 using the Sicilian defense. If I play anything else I believe I will go on to lose this match, as his ranking means he is likely to prove too strong in open play. However, as the game progresses you will see how by playing this strategy perfectly in the opening moves, I have created a very strong defense. I have therefore forced something of a deadlock through the middle stage of this game, which gives me a better chance in the closing stages. Why? Well due to my pawn structure, I have not just mustered a strong defense, but a better attack should the game come down to the final pieces, which is exactly what happens. Note that I got away with a potential fork by white knight on Black king and rook at 1.07, I'm not sure why he did not play this, but that misjudgement ironically opened up a chance for me, and I ended up 1 pawn to the good. As a result of this outcome, one does not have to be a grandmaster to see how this game will conclude with my king and pawn position on the left wing and White has no option but to resign.
*Also note - white's 'en passant' at 0:58 seconds...a rare sight, particularly on yahoo!
