  • I'm rethinking the knife and possibly the matches. I've made a small 2.5" blade from a sawzall blade that fits in the tin. thanks to M4040.com for the idea, but on this you have to make a handle for it to really work, and it does quite well. (Video real soon!)

  • Thanks Gary. The fishing supplies, stocking, water purification tabs I found at Walmart.

The tin that started this idea last Sunday was purchased at my local coop. A small altoid can may work. My can measures 2-1/2" x 2" x 5/8" thick. The light and waterproof matches at a local well stocked True Value store. The rest I had kicking around the house.

  • No I haven't, although I should seeing I have several large single pane windows myself.

There are a lot of items that didn't make it into this tiny tin a whistle, knife, fire striker, saw, wire, space blanket etc. I had to pare everything down to the bone. I could have just had a button battery and bulb or just the compass disk, but I wanted some things in tact. For me, knowing what I know and the environment I'd be using this in, I fell this tool box would work fine in most conditions.

  • I think you are absolutely brilliant Thank you for sharing where do you find the tin and where would you get supplies ?

  • paul have you thought anything about insulating drapes for passive solar windows ?love the sleeping bag .signal while you sleep ?

  • paul hey cool video thanks i got caught out in deep sand with a little car ,it makes you think .keep having fun

  • I always carry a small kodakzi8 video camera in my pocket, to protect it from dust and lint and water i insert it in a plastic zip loc bag, which could be used as a canteen. a magnifying lens card will fit in a wallet and can be used to start a fire. A sabiki rig would take up as little space as your hooks and you would not need bait.

I lked your light and selection, a small foil packet of anti bioitic would be handy
