  • zak i have a question , i'm moving out of my parents house in a short while to get my own place, i'm 21 and serious about getting a dog ( a puppie) However, I'll be out at least 9 hours a day , for work, and because i'll be living alone she/he will be unsupervised, Can i do something about any kind of behavior i don't want him/her to have while i'm away? I'm going to be giving him full attention at all time when i'm there , But i wont be there 24H/day , do you know were i'm getting at? Thanks !

  • Is this the hut from the tv show "who let the dogs out"????? Someone please tel

    Me...

  • @daphneisthebest How carefully did you watch the video? The answer is there - he's a BABY. Keep him with you, even as you go from room to room, like you would a infant human with no playpen. The cage he sleeps in should at least be in the same room you sleep in. Look up info on crate training for that. If a human baby cries, answering doesn't teach him to make that noise, he already does that. Answering it makes you the person he can rely on to help him grow.

  • Hi Zak, I had a very important question for you! I have an 8 week old Shetland Sheepdog and I’ve had him for a week now. He is a very happy puppy and a smart one too. However, he whines and cries a lot. If I leave the room and he’s stuck on the couch, he will start to cry because he’s alone. He is able to go into his cage himself but the moment I close the cage he goes NUTS. He cries, whines and even howels. I live in an apartment complex so I’m afraid for the noise he makes.

    Thank you so much!

  • but still what if they are an adult and their chewing and you're giving them attention and they are still play biting and jumping (in a way you dont like: 80 pounds of pure lab flying towards your face)

  • I have a 3mnth old lab and I completely agree with you in saying that you must supervise your dog for the first year! It's hard work but I know from previous dogs that it's worth giving them all the efection, playing with them , teaching tricks but the most important thing I find is walking your dog! That is where I perfer Cesar Millans advice when it comes to disapline, and teaching them how to walk on a leash correctly!

  • 100% agree. Be with your dog. Play with your dog, exercise with your dog. I have a border collie and she is AWESOME, because we are always together exploring our world.

  • thanks for making this vid i have finally talked my dad in to letting me get a do so my friend has dogs and will give me a puppy this year so its been fun seeing this vids and you the puppy and my cat will have a prob

  • Seriously, you are my favorite dog trainer! I love your view on dogs and dog training and you use COMMON SENSE which is rare these days. Creds for that! @-->-- I also noticed (as previous comment says) that you seem very happy in the video, and it makes me (and probably others aswell) happy for you and with you! :)

  • 'jumping on you' is a dog behavior that is a normal one, but people may label it 'annoying' or 'not good'. It's a behavior that you want to put on cue ('jump' command) or minimize. It's not disobedience and it's not anything other than jumping.

So train the dog to sit... a sitting dog cannot jump.

A dog that jumps can be taught to walk on its hind legs or 'pogo' on its back legs. Redirect the jump into something acceptable.

" Train, don't complain..." is a motto in many training schools.
