  • Military spending is 57% of DISCRETIONARY federal budgeting, not of the entire federal budget. Discretionary spending makes up about a third of the budget. Military measures also include many reconstruction, relief, and other humanitarian projects. There also seems to be a surprising lack of solid evidence or planning as to exactly WHAT One Minute For Peace donations go to. Distracting videos of cute animals, pie charts, and misleading statements, apparently.

  • this is too cute! rosie is a great spokesperson for peace. she's so persuasive!

  • I attend Quaker meeting and my son loves this video! I do not understand the internet very well, so he had to help me post this comment! I think Rosie is a great representative for peace, as the kids LOVE animal videos and it is succinct enough for every adult to understand the economics!

  • Rachel,

I like to think of pacifist (for me, peacemaking) as a verb, not a noun of people hiding with bags over their heads holding peace signs. (passive-ists) I can do alot of good work

for the world before I get into debates. As a working parent, there are many other people who have more time to read than I do, but I want to work to make the world better for my children and all of us. Good luck! :> Lisa

  • A pacifist is someone who lives in a country that values its citizens -- and others in the world. And who thinks that spending enough to have a military establishment/armaments 60 TIMES greater than other countries is a bit -- well, excessive.

  • Having a weak army did not work for Belgium, Holland, Poland or Kuwait.

A pacifist is someone who lives in a country with a huge army to protect them.

  • Love this video! Of course there are serious problems re: lack of funding for education, health care and social services. And its partially due to funding the military instead of these. Thx for making the msg fun!

  • When I created this video I thought about using more serious figures, but we were looking for something a little more light hearted than the videos AFSC created in the past.

About 1/2 the videos in this series will have a light tone and the other half will be more serious. Please feel free to let us know if others work better for you than Rosie here did.

  • I understand what you are trying to convey, but it doesn't work for me. It's much more meaningful to me to hear how many schools could be funded -- here or in other countries.
