Minnie was ahead of her time, Many of my friends were shocked to see this Black young woman with a huge afro on the cover of "Garden" they had assumed Minnie with her coloratura range and operatic vocal technique was a white girl trying to sing black,That she was a sister became evident with repeated listening, she sang with intensity and soul, blended gospel, jazz, pop and even county western into the mix and she had the most lovely voice of her day and time.

There is no other singer like Minnie Riperton. Even other artists who can hit high notes cannot compare to the sheer ease and magnitude of Minnie's vocal range. I have all of her albums and "Come to My Garden" is her greatest. Even years later, I cannot think of one artist whose entire album can compare to this one. This album has the musical arrangements, the lyrics and the vocals when put altogether, make this album one that you MUST have in your musical collection. RIP Minnie - I miss you!

Very interesting about Minnie Riperton - creativity way ahead it's time - and personally ahead of her time too... She faced life head on - followed her own rules (not societies) and loved who she wanted. SHE lived a lot of life 31 yrs... can't imagine how much great music she would have made if she had not passed. Her legacy is her daughter - son, and outstanding husband (who still carries a torch for her)... Clearly an exceptional human being with a brilliant voice and vision. GOD BLESS
