The sum of two positive rational numbers is positive. The sum of two negative rational numbers is negative. The sum of a positive and a negative number depends on the difference of their absolute values;their sum, has the sign of the rational numbers with the greatest absolute value. Since integers are rational numbers, the same rules for adding rational numbers apply to them.
