The note on which Joe had scribbled down her address rested between my fingers. His penmanship was pretty terrible, but since I was kind of used to it, it didn't take me too long to figure out what the note said. Taking a second glance at the sign on the house across the street, making sure that I was at the right place, I sucked in a breath. I was at the right place, and it was time for me to find the girl. 'You can do this,' I told myself.

The photo Joe had given me was still in my pocket. I didn't have to look at it, though. I had studied it enough to be able to spot the beauty in a crowd. I could see her pretty face in my head just by closing my eyelids. She was one of a kind, never had I seen anybody like her, and I was looking forward to finally meet her in person.

It seemed to be my lucky day, because when I looked up I saw just the person I was looking for. She was carrying an armful of white, pink, and lavender roses mixed together in a pretty bouquet.

The girl looked different from how she had looked in the photo Joe had given to me, but it was her, I was sure. It was pretty disappointing that she didn't really look the same in real life, but that wasn't going to stop me from doing what I was here to do.

The long hair that had flown freely around her shoulders in the picture was strictly pulled back into a ponytail, and the short dress and the heals that had shown off her long legs were replaced by a pair of dark jeans, a white top and flats. I couldn't really picture this girl partying like the girl in the picture, she looked way too serious, but it was her. If she didn't have a twin, that was.

I got out of my car, and the sound of me closing the door made Selena jump. She hadn't seen that there was someone in the car. Her sudden movement caused some of the flowers to fall out of her arms. One of the flowers landed just at my feet, and I reached for it. ''So, who are all the roses from?'' I asked her.

Selena lifted her eyes off of the flowers that had fallen out of the bouquet she was carrying, and her brown ones landed on mine. ''Nobody,'' she replied, but the rosy color appearing on her cheeks told a different story.

If she had a boyfriend, things would get much more difficult, so I hoped for the best, once again turning on my charm.

''I doubt that,'' I disagreed. ''You see, white roses symbolizes purity and true love, the pink ones gratitude and appreciation, and a rose in this color. . .'' I held up the light purple rose in my hand, and watched her as she bit her lower lip, blushing even more.

''One lavender rose is a symbol of love at first sight,'' she smiled, and accepted the rose.

Seemed like it was working. Looking up into the sky, hidden behind a set of fluffy white clouds, I thanked my mother and her flower shop. When I was little, she had let me sit on her desk while she made flower arrangements, and every time she picked up a new flower she'd let me say what color it it was, and what the color symbolized. Never before had I thought that I would actually need to know all the stuff she had taught me, but now I was happy that I actually remembered some of it.

''I have to go. . .'' The girl was about to walk away, and I realized that I had to make a move if I was going to be able to help Joe out of the situation he was in. I had to figure out a way to get her into my car.

''So when's our first date?''

She stopped as the words left my lips, just like I had hoped. Slowly turning around to face me again, she looked at me, her left brow raising slightly. ''You're asking me out?''

''If I was. . . Would you say yes?''

Selena thought about it for a minute, and then shrugged her shoulders. ''I don't really know you, so. . . No, I wouldn't.'' She looked away. ''I'm kind of in a hurry, so I gotta go.''

''No wait,'' I called after her. I couldn't let her go now, not when I was so close. I had to make her come with me. If this was the only way I could help Joe, I wouldn't screw it up. ''Let's get to know each other?'' I winked, giving her my best smile.

''You're not gonna give up, are you?'' she said, looking up at me, her lips twitching into a smile.

I shook my head slightly, flashing my teeth. ''Never.''

''Okay, then.''
