Williams has a responsibility to be aware if there is a dangerous situation. Yes Schubert has played the puck, but he is going opposite of the rush for the change. As a result of the shove, his groin is t-boned (0:51) on the corner edge of the board.

I've seen harder hits with players going to the bench and having the door open on them. It's not cool, but the checking player has no control on if the door is going to open or not.

Besides, Schubert had just played the puck and Williams was already in motion to hit him, he can finish his check.
