I don't think his Aunt abused him... based from what I remembered reading his Aunt had drinking problem that was why she got hit on buying Charlie a birthday gift that night... It was her Aunt who was abused by a family member an Uncle if I remembered it right resulting to her Aunt drinking problem... If I'm mistaken I think I must read it again...

The movie trailer was very deceptive, by making it seem like a wallflower starts to fit in, falls in love with a girl who makes him feel worth while, like any other typical teen romance; but the previews show him as a normal shy teenager, when he's also really psychologically damaged.
