yea i figured that too. Too distraught to want to live not desperate enough to take his own life.

Damn I love this scene..

When I first saw this scene and heard Algren whisper "shoot me dammit," I honestly thought he wanted to be shot so he wouldn't have to do his job for Omura. With the way Algren was so emotionally distraught, I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case

So what happened to this Japanese rifle man? I saw him fleeing the scene in the fog battle. Oh yea, thats right! HE WAS KILLED BY ALGREN IN TEH LAST BATTLE... Algren did live up to his word. How -- honorable.

@Clamhead939 If I was in the theater when that actually happens, I'd laugh my ass off so hard.

@Clamhead939 Hahahaha dude your comment made my day

I found I'm a skilled swordsman and an excellent marskman with a shotgun, (fencing and at the firing range - local gun club) but both took me considerable time and focus. I had to learn how to calm and discipline my mind and steady my hand.
As aa3gunner says (kudos to you sir) you can give a man a weapon, but he will not master it until he has experienced it for real. That is why the militia were so easily defeated by the Samurai in the next scene: Because they were unprepared for real war.

holy shit he is fucking scary

when tom cruise did this to his men they lost thrust in leadership when facing the enemy and ran! wel done tom cruise
@Darusdei Marksmanship takes time and skill no matter what. It's no different from learning how to use a sword or learn to box properly.
Anyone can slash with a sword. Anyone can throw a punch...but that doesn't make them a swordsman or a boxer....
