Gottleib, the makers of Q*bert designed the arcade version of KRULL. It was a dual joystick game, very much like William's Robotron. The game had five levels that repeated with increased difficulty each time you defeated the Beast.

The Atari 2600 version lacked the graphics of the arcade version but it without a doubt can hold its own. By cleverly using timed elements, and taking advantage of the film's plotline of a randomly appearing fortress, the Atari designers created an engaging game.

All-in-all, KRULL the film is a fantastic "save the princess" adventure. It features a hideous villain, a noble hero and heroine and a magical weapon, the Glaive - a razor lined throwing star. James Horner creates a fantastic musical score and a young Liam Neeson co-stars in this action packed romp. If you haven't seen KRULL the movie, I hope this review will convince you to do so.

  • Excellent video! Never seen the arcade version before, that looks pretty great, and that pinball adaptation would've been great, too bad it wasn't released. I've never played the 2600 version, but it looks awesome, the graphics in the spider web stage are excellent. I like how you fight a gingerbread man at the end, too. :) I could be mistaken, but I seem to remember it being a reasonably big title for Atari, and they promoted it a decent amount in their Atari Age magazine.

  • @niceandgames Ahhh Atari Age Magazine, I loved getting those in the mail when I was a kid.

They atually did some cool visuals on the 2600 version, even those the Beast does look a little gingerbread man-like.

  • The Atari game looks pretty good. I'll probably get that one of these days.

  • @WillisFilms1 Once you understand what you have to do its pretty cool.

  • since when did you use the atari coins sound? and the sounds like a sid.

  • Excellent video, I liked how you intercut scenes from the movie with the game levels. I would say both versions have there good points but a really great Krull game has yet to be made. Thanks for the strategy on the arcade version as I couldn't get past the first stage. :D

  • Cool looking movie and game, i'll have to check them both out eventually.

  • Gotta say i didn`t knew the game or the movie!

Being the Sci-Fi freak that i am,i`m eager to watch this classic now!

Thanks for sharing Mr. Pio :D !

    Awesome work as always!

    Cheers!

  • @MAMECADE Yeah, looking like a gingerbread man is a good thing in my book. I should get out my Atari Age magazines, might be fun to have a look through them again. :)

  • Great video John, Krull is a really cool video thats for sure! I will have to pick up the 2600 game as it would be a great deal more difficult to grab an arcade copy. Anyways quite interesting video, take care!

  • @RNRgammer Thanks.... Killing the Beast in the Atari version will forever remain a mystery.
