September 2nd 2007. Went for a walk along the Delaware Canal on the Pennsylvania side. Just before getting to New Hope, I noticed there were some out of commission trains on the opposite side of the canal. I walked to the nearest bridge to cross to the other side and this is what I filmed! I (New) Hope you enjoy it :)

  • According to the research I've done on this, that's the "New Hope and Ivyland" railway (you can barely see this on the loco.)

This train isn't abandoned, but rather it's in storage on railroad property (making the guy with the camera tresspassing.) Most of the other stuff that looks out of comission is stored either for parts for their working steamer, or to later be restored to use.

  • If I was tresspassing, it was by accident. I walked right by a bunch of people working there and just smiled. I saw no signs or gates or anything warning to keep off. Mind you I took video of the inside of a railroad in another video so you got me there! You're right about the trains not being "abandoned". Some of them seem to be abandoned in the sense that they've just been sitting there rotting away. Cheers!

  • I went back to this site a week ago and it looked a bit different. I plan to make a new video with the new camera I got.

  • Some of that stuff further in the back was there back in 68-72 when me and my friends used to play on them.

  • Has it really been sitting around for that long? wow!

  • Pretty cool video, old trains are awesome!

  • thanks for the comment.. I have a couple of other videos as well.

  • They already started restoration on most of the cars I don't think you can tell BUT the steam engines might just be spare parts, or soon restored

  • Most of the museum railways like that really don't mind if people wander around their stored stock taking photos and stuff. Long as you don't climb on it or damage them, shouldn't be a problem.

  • @cool45010 Yeah, the point I was getting at is it's best to err on the side of caution.

  • @darkyoda Ohhhh, I thought you meant that he was trespassing on the road. Yes, technically he is trespassing by stepping on the ROW, but as long as he is not doing anything malicious the folks at the NH&I won't bother him. They're a very railfan-friendly line, and they'll let you browse the dead line and yards as long as

    a) You repect their equipment and treat it as you would your own property

    b) Act in a safe and reponsible manner, as not to endanger the lives of either you or others

  • The moment you set foot onto the tracks, you're trespassing. The rails are railroad property, as are the rolling stock.

  • @darkyoda He's not trespassing, to the best of my knowledge this is a public road that leads to a quarry to the north of where he is standing.

  • The GP40 at the front of the line of rolling stock is still used, its one of the engines used to pull the NH&I's freight trains, and it subs on the excursion runs when #40's in the shop. I believe this area is called the "dead line" where the railroad places equipment until they have the time/come up with the money to restore them.

  • those steamers will be restored to use.

  • @trainwreckmaster Yeah it is in regular use there =)

  • We would love to cut them up for scrap we pay good too!

  • the gp30 still looks good

  • @livardo You should stay away from that area. Its not safe. Your far away from the town and your the only person there. You could've got mugged. Please becareful. If you wish to go there again bring a group of friends with you.
