@executivedesigns . I used to work at Eagle Ottawa leather in Grand Haven Michigan USA for 27 years. I used to be a "Paster" putting Chrome Paste on the hides. It was hard work and my skin would soak in the chrome. When EOLC got rid of the pasting unit I was happy. Chrome is used to stop decomposition (rotting) of the hides and turn it into leather. We processed up to 50,000 hides a week. This was for GM Ford Toyota & other auto manufactures.

@executivedesigns Yes Blue Chrome is cancerous. But it can also irritate the skin giving a condition called "Chrome Itch". The chrome is "Pasted" on the hide by two spray guns on each side of a 8x12 foot board. It is called "Chrome Paste" . 1st the hide thrown over the top of the board aligning with the outline of the back bone. Then the hide is stretched and smoothed using a squeegee. This is put on the "Grain" side where the hair used to be, then to dry in an oven.

western tanneries? most leather articles comes from china and they are tanned in a not so old but archaic way. chrome is still being used for tanning, even though chrome+3 oxidation to chrome+6 is known as very common and also as a cancer incidental variable,
somehow every "mystic" aspect leather had is now lost. this material has lots of historic transcendent background.
and btw, leather industry is an industry by itself, it is not just a meat byproduct.

thanks a lot!

you have no idea what you're talking about. 98% of the worldwide leater production is hide from animals people are eating. in slaughterhouses, animals hides are just drop and tanneries buy them to make leather. also tanneries in western countries treat sewage! you can't blame the tanneries for pollution, only the governments of counties that doesn't have environmental regulations. in western tanneries, the water leaves the tanneries more clean than it gets in, believe it or not. If not stay dumb

Thank you for posting this video. It's sad, so many people in the western world have no idea what the true cost of leather production is. We need to wake up and show the world the true cost of tanneries and their leather items.
For the environment, for the animals, and for the people.
what's this music?
