My son and I crashed on the Alpine Slide in Park City, UT. It makes me sick to watch because of the pain it caused my son. I have replayed the accident thousands of times in my mind, I honestly cannot pinpoint what went wrong, the speed, the tiny camera, and we as riders were all intact, then in twisted instance of time, the sled felt no more stable than a potato sack on a carnival slippery slide and whipped out from under us.

I suffered about a dozen scrapes and burns, but my son hit his head very hard on the slide's concrete surface. After a long visit to the Children's Hospital, and a CAT Scan he was diagnosed with only a large hematoma (and not a cracked skull). I feel terrible on so many levels for his pain and my part in causing it.

I post this video to hopefully remind me and any viewers that it is important "to be more than conservative, but to be safe." I could have gone slower, period, which would have likely avoided this entire mess.

  • It really was terrible... I refuse to watch it now. Gratefully, my son is doing very well. Another few days and he should be back 100%.

  • you said you replayed the accident a thousand times, yet you never simply considered, that maybe holding the camera was a huge distraction, and going too fast were the OBVIOUS reasons?

  • I was on that with my dad and we went on one of those turns too fast and flew right up it. My dad landed on top of me and I fell unconscious. I woke up at the hospital with a little trama, I am very scared to go on that now. Best wishes!

  • My question would be, "Why weren't either of you wearing a helmet?"

  • whats a hematoma?

  • Social Darwinism in action.

My kids and I do NOTHING without proper gear, which includes helmets and pads.

We let the herd thin itself out.

  • Good news is you guys bonded and will forever be linked as a powerful memory. Hopefully he'll remember it when he's 40.

  • Bad news is head trama is never a 100% bounce back recovery. The hit on his head never goes away. Ask Dr Daniel Amen.

  • i have an accident in a slide too.. the burns are the worst thing

  • hmmm maybe losee the camera and be a tad more responsible next time?

  • Its Russell from UP
