"Summer Wine" (originally released by Lee Hazlewood and Nancy Sinatra in 1967) is the first of a duet series by Becca Williams and Louis Barabbas.

In this version Becca takes Lee's verses and Louis sings Nancy's.
Double Bass is played by Joel Roberts from The Broken Biscuits, Tenor Sax by Gus Fairbairn from Honeyfeet.

This live acoustic session was filmed by Bryony Anderson in the Debt Records press office above Fuel Bar in Withington. The actual recording will be given away as a free mp3 on 4th August 2010 to mark the anniversary of Lee Hazlewood's death in 2007.

Despite appearances, none of the artists featured in this footage are affiliated with the communist party.

  • OK, we are promised a series of these cover recordings by these two brilliant artists. It's been too long since you did this first one. More please!

  • I can feel the room and the acoustic vibrations, the band is perfect for this song.

Becca has such a wonderful warm voice, there's a subtle contralto that reminds me of Judy Garland. As to the ever entrancing Mister Barabbas, you have to love a man that can fill Nancy Sinatra's boots.
