Our 2 year old son starting doing this right after turning two years old. He puts his head dow, squints his eyes and appears to be out of it for 5-15 seconds at a time. Initially it was a few times a week, now that he is almost 2.5 yrs old it happens almost everyday and sometimes 2-3 times per day. We've taken him to Children's hospital in Oakland, an EEG was done while they videotaped him for about 36 hrs. He did have a very brief "episode" but the EEG did not show any seizure activity. The nuerologist suggested that it was just behavorial. We don't quite understand or agree with that. A few months later he continued to do this and we went to Stanford's Lucille Packards Children's nuerology dept. The nuerologist agreed that it may not be seizures but to monitor him and keep a diary and video tape as much as we can. If it worsened or became more frequent they suggest doing another EEG and or try medications. We are not wanting to put our child on meds if we are not sure what this is. We are wanting to know if there are other children doing the same thing and wondering if there is something we can do or if he will outgrow it or if it is just behavorial. It's an odd thing he does and we want to figure it out. Any helpful feedback or info would be appreciated, most other doctors and people say it sounds like peite mal seizures, but nuerologists are not sure and EEG was normal.
i think you should take him to the doctors and see what they say i have epilepsy absence seizures
