Like many places where the freezing weather can keep your car from starting, we have engine block heaters but will also leave our cars running (yes, with the keys inside) when we go into a restaurant or store. Otherwise, we'll be stranded.

  • The engine can get cold in less than 30 min. And inside car becomes dangerously cold, too. Until warmed, your breath freezes as a crust on the inner windshield.

  • AND I was complaining since it got to a rare 28 degrees here in California and nearly killed my tropical plants! I also will never complain again

  • geeesh will a dog survive in this weather :O:P

  • i hope to see ice in my country in middlest no ice never

  • I live in Alberta and it gets cold here too. Maybe not as bad but we usually have a few -45 days but most are -30 or -25. I have not had to leave my car running yet ;) But I have a block heater and a battery warmer and also a trickle charger. I left my car at the airport for a week though not plugged in and it was -35 but started when I came back. I own a Volvo though. :)

  • thats illegal to do in canada. and they don't have any issues.

  • how long are they in the restaurant? i know -50 is pretty cold, but if the engine is already warm from the drive over there, it should start back up as long as it doesn't sit there for over an hour.

  • i would love to live in alaska but nope i'm stuck in new mexico this place really sucks

  • i bet auto theft is high in alaska lol

  • In Chicagoland it gets cold-but not that cold. Alaska is a great place. Nice video!!

  • Confusing for Europeans - I hope one day you'll use Celsius for temperature, too -

    0 C = water freezes

    100 C=water boils

  • O I know why u make these "superior" comments. Because u somehow live in a colder climate and somehow can say u never leave ur car running or ur heat in ur home. Suuurreee. Ever watch "Ice Road Truckers" they also leave theirs running in -20 or below they even tell u why.

  • So we have all these rude comments about why alaskians leave cars running in -50 degree weather why? Do people not realize that's cold? If its -50 in the daytime and no heater is avail as she states, I believe it would be very hard on the motor. Retarded asses, none of yall LIVE there so stop acting superior.

  • Volvo's should belong in Alaska for cars.

  • i live there i swear to god

  • My car starts in -40 easy... its not a lil 4 banger eather....

  • exactly

  • well we have block heaters and oil pan heaters which we plug in when we get home and shut off the car....its only 3-4 months out of the year where tis bad enough that you wanna leave your car running while your out and about at the store or something...
