Asperger syndrome, Autism, PDD-NOS are different forms of Pervasive Developmental Disorders (PDD). All kids with any of these three (3) diagnoses are often co-diagnosed with Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD).
On the other hand, most kids with SPD do not have PDD or Autism.

Thank you Dr. Lucy Jane Miller. As an Occupational Therapist helping young children with Autism, getting this information out is critical. Blessings to you and your family.

I was told by my doc that SPD/SDI are on the spectrum.

I have an example. when i was younger at school when the fire drills went off. other than going outside when i was supposed to, well i don't remember this but apparently i just sat there covered my ears and wouldn't move, i pretty much just shut down. I still covered my ears in high school but the sounds weren't as bad.

my daughter does this kind of meltdown when she gets a drop of water on her shirt, pants and if she gets a drop of water on the table when she is eating she melts down if when her food is done you don't remover her dish, if she doesn't want something on her plate you can't simply say ok push it to the side she will wig until it is removed. Her clothes have to be what she picks or she will meltdown crying in and abnormal way.

How is this different from the sensory problems in Aspergers?

SPD is different from Asperger's Syndrome in many ways. Asperger's refers to a difficulty with engagement and social interactions, while SPD has to do with impairments with processing sensory information. Almost all individuals with Asperger's Syndrome have sensory processing issues. However, most of the inviduals with SPD do NOT have Asperger's Syndrome. Many people consider Asperger's Syndrome on the spectrum of Autism DIsorders.
