A few months after Ruby Jane moved to Austin in September 2007, Ray Benson heard her at Artz Rib House in Austin (after being told about her by several people). After the show he hired her on the spot to do some shows with Asleep At The Wheel. He asked her if she knew "Beaumont Rag", she said she didn't, he suggested she learn it if she was going to play Western Swing in Texas. I think she has.

I've seen RJ probably at close to 200 shows over the two years she's lived in Austin (lucky me), and this is the level Ruby plays at every time. She's as polished, professional, and consistently great as any live performer I've ever seen. Plus she's about the sweetest person you'll ever meet.

I liked the description you gave in that e-mail to me, Cowboy 229, you said this video should be called "Dancing Fingers". The silhouetted figure of RJ makes it even more awesome.
