Sunday 14th November - second day of CVR / MCR Steam Galah - was cloudy and grey in contrast to the previous day. In this sequence 34028 'Eddystone' and 44767 'George Stephenson' top-and-tail the first train of the day from Leekbrook to Cauldon Low and return. From Apesford, location for the first clip, the staccato exhaust of the Black 5 banker could be heard clearly all the way up the 1 in 40/45. On the return trip the West Country pacific let the Black 5 lead loco do all the work on the short uphill section from Winkhill to Ipstones where the final clip was taken.

  • Thanks, Ian - the weather was not as good on the Sunday but the panoramic shot at that spot north of Winkhill by the crossings made up for it. That mile or so of 1 in 61 uphill certainly makes the return leg from Cauldon a lot more interesting than it would otherwise be!

  • that looked like it was an event to behold. eddystone looks so good in the staffordshire moors -- it should have stayed :)
