35028 - VSOE Xmas Luncheon Special 20-12-08

The last steam hauled VSOE of the year took the form of a Xmas Luncheon Special on the out and back run via Guildford and Redhill. Unusually the outward leg ran via Kensington Olympia rather than Barnes and we pick up the train at Brentford just after it has rejoined its more usual route at Kew Junction.(Just in case you cant see it, the hedge is cut in the shape of a steam loco). A big thank you to the driver of the train, held at the signal at Byfleet & New Haw, who delayed restarting his train so that those of us at the end of the platform could see Clan Line climbing the hill up to the main line. From Byfleet we move to Shalford Junction and the beginning of the climb to Shalford station. After the water stop at Shalford the train is captured, firstly at the foot crossing near Chilworth and then again at Chilworth station.

Thank You. No Brentford Station doesn't have barriers, but it is sometimes staffed and also boasts a small buffet which always appears to be open.

How do you get to so many locations in 1 day? Fantastic vid, 5* :-)

1. VSOE trains have slack timings to give their customers value for money. 2. I'm lucky that this route runs close to the M4,M25 and the A3 meaning it's easy to keep up. 3.(and most importantly). I don't make these videos alone. My brother provides additional material turning one location into two shots. These can vary from ten foot apart to up to two miles.
