Catching bettas sleep-swimming can be hilarious. Their anal fins (the long skinny ones on the bottom) hang down like numb limbs and it's easy to imagine them as arms extended forward like Frankenstein's monster. That and the fact that they bump into things head-on before unconsciously course-correcting into yet further objects.

Recently came across your blog shortly after finishing Boneshaker. It was a fantastic story and I look forward to reading some more! As for the fish, its a very generous tank for a Betta which I appreciate. People always seem to squeeze those poor things into ball jars for the duration of their life.
