Boobquake: Live from Dupont Circle

On Monday April 26, 2010 at Dupont Circle in Washington DC a small group, read 5-7 women, participated in Boobquake, an event coordinated online through facebook and twitter to respond to a Islamic cleric comments that "women dressing immodestly" potentially led to earthquakes.

"Many women who do not dress modestly ... lead young men astray, corrupt their chastity and spread adultery in society, which (consequently) increases earthquakes," Hojatoleslam Kazem Sedighi was quoted as saying by Iranian media. Sedighi is Tehran's acting Friday prayer leader.

Oh and for the record, there was an earthquake off the coast of Taiwan earlier today.

An unusually strong magnitude 5.8 earthquake struck Tuesday afternoon and sent tremors along the East Coast, which prompted office buildings from Washington D.C. to New York to be evacuated, including the U.S. Capitol and the Pentagon. Pictures on the wall in the Capitol building reportedly fell and panicked workers ran to the exits, apparently fearing a 9/11-style attack. Workers were initially told not to re-enter the buildings, but were later allowed to enter the Capitol building.
