this is definitely my favorite ending from any romantic comedy. WHMS is a genuinely intelligent (for a change) film on the tenuous relationships of men & women.

It's possible. I haven't seen the whole film since I wrote that comment. I do expect to pay attention to that aspect next time. What may be an assumption on my part is that she moves to New York upon graduation. I now remember Harry is going to call his girl friend, Sally's roommate. So maybe it is summer vacation for him but she's leaving U of Chicago to pursue a career without having the degree.

Maybe she started college just weeks (or days) after she turned 18 and she and Harry had sex just before she turned 33? Possible. Good observation on your part.
