An introduction, especially for my fellow American railfans, to the steam depot at Wolsztyn Poland. To the best of my knowledge, this is the only place in the western world where you can still see big steam in regular service on a major standard gauge railroad system. It is also the only place I know of that offers a carefully supervised hands-on program of steam locomotive operation for railfans. My son and I took advantage of that opportunity in July 2003, and in this Experience Wolsztyn series it is my pleasure to share that week with you. Ol49 111 was used for passenger service the week we were there, and the #69 was fired up on Thursday to haul a special excursion train from Poznan on July 12.
I,v been many times to wolsztyn driving the steam trains.nice to see my friends again.martin lodge
