Quick question although its prolly been some time.. when you closed the ds. was the marle toon moving at the time. If so this is linked to the snes moving party save glitch.

ah! just got this glitch to work! I'm gonna try closing the ds at random times to glitch it up!!

i also found a minor sound glitch where, if you close the ds while lavos makes his cry, the cry restarts and then cuts off early. works with some other sounds too. And I also found a glitch a coupe days ago where youre stuck in one spot. Cool glitch. Reply for more info.

Looks like Square-Enix failed to properly account for sleep mode when they ported this game. Nice find.
