  • Great interview. Thanks for posting it. She remains fascinating to this day.

  • Plimpton edited the Paris Review, the magazine that first published Burroughs,Allen Ginzberg,Terry Southern, etc.from the 1950s.He came from a rich NYC family and wrote several popular books about sports, including Paper Lion.He was at his best doing interviews like this because,as you say,he was interesting and charming. .There's a new bio by Nelson Aldrich Jr. that's very good. I always hoped I'd meet Plimpton-hell, he knew everyone else, why not me?

  • This interview infuriates me. I hope he feels guilt to this day for not helping her.

  • @hebneh That photo was taken at Silver Hill Hospital, a psychiatric hospital in New Canaan, Connecticut, that Edie was admitted to in the fall of 1962 when she was 19 years old, i.e. before she moved to New York City in the summer of 1963. But yeah, Edie had this pristine, innocent, radiant look about her. Total purity and beauty. Her whole life was a piece of art.

  • The photo of Edie at :35, in the big hat - I've never seen that one before. And my goodness, how beautiful she is. This obviously was early on, and she still has an innocent and open look to her. She's not yet heavily drugged or as damaged as she would become. Not to say it was all fun and games when she was younger; I'm sure this photo was taken during or after one of her first times in a mental institution.

  • I think of her every day.

  • @passionateaboutmusic Wikipeda says: "Plimpton was born and raised in New York City, the daughter of actors Keith Carradine and Shelley Plimpton. Her parents met while performing in the original Broadway run of Hair. Her paternal grandfather was actor John Carradine and she is the niece of Robert and David Carradine. She is a cousin of writer and editor George Plimpton, and, despite the different spelling, cartoonist Bill Plympton."

  • Good old George.

  • Edie had the very same accent.

  • Thanks for posting this!

  • How simple and true, if a little sad. Beautifully said.

  • actor Keith Carradine is Martha Plimption's pops. David ("Kung Fu") & Robert ("Revenge Of The Nerds") are Keith's bro's.
