Taking in the explosion of home video, the erosion of civil liberties, the introduction of draconian censorship measures, hysterical press campaigns and the birth of many careers born in blood and videotape, it also reflects on the influence this peculiar era still exerts on us today.

This era-defining documentary features interviews with filmmakers Neil Marshall ('The Descent', 'Doomsday'), Christopher Smith ('Severance', 'Black Death'), Andy Nyman ('Ghost Stories') and for the first time since 1984, MP Graham Bright. There's also rare archive footage of James Ferman (director of the BBFC 1975-1999) & Mary Whitehouse, plus lots more!

Catch the World Premiere at London's Frightfest in August. It will be available on DVD in October where it will be included as part of Nucleus Films' upcoming three-disc set 'Video Nasties: The Definitive Guide'.

  • It really pisses me off that some jumped up old fucks who've never experienced a good movie in their life are still maintaining that video nasties are 'evil' and 'nasty' and that members of parliament were 'physically sick' while watching them. Having seen most of these films, the only problem I have with about 4 out of the 72 films is that the uncut prints contain real animal violence. Other than that, these people should really see what kind of stuff is being prodded today, much less tacky!

  • Movies music and video games has never Inspired an act a Violence in someone who was in there right mind to begin with. The Columbine shooters Mark david chapman Other school Shooters and Criminals ispired by things like movies were all violent and unstable before doing anything.

  • A very amusing documentary, indeed. I never thought that listening to a bunch of old guys talking about how horrible 'video nasties' were would be so interesting. But of course, that was the intention :)

  • Oh yes the are showing the Evil Dead (1981) straight after - BOO!

  • The Horror Channel SKY 319 are screening this on Nov 4th at 10.55pm.

  • Ha, that nerd saying these are nasty, and they were evil. Look at the violence in films nowadays

    Twice as graphic and violent.

  • @taylan1111111 Can I have a link too please?
