The Fishing Guide TV show in conjunction with Adam Johnson of Skyview Lodge in Presque Isle, WI are out doing some ice fishing and Adam lands a nice size walleye.
I catch allot of eyes and mainly keep the males to eat.
But...there are times of the year when I strictly go for the big-slobs to catch that 30"+ eye. I started keeping the big females when I caught my first 30" and I only kept one...(to catch one a day that's 30"+ is an accomplishment in itself through the ice). Now every year I go back and let the 30" -er's go...only gonna keep one if it's 31" or bigger. Now I have a few on the wall.Check my vids.
Nice fish, someone wrote that if they caught a trophy they might keep it, I put a beast back and had a reproduction made and am EXTREAMLY HAPPY with it!
@olddickbrent it also depends on the lake...sometimes the lake doesn't allow natural reproduction anyways, so I'll take the big ones. but if natural reproduction occurs, ill let them go.
i agree, let them big bitches go. I personally dont like them much more than 23 inches. I do admit though that if I ever caught one big enough to mount I would think about it, not sure though. However I just missed one through the ice two days ago that was pushing 8 or more. Dont know what I would of done with it. It really comes down to wall or back to spawn. And being I dont have a trophy walleye, I might. Agreed let the big ones go. Congrats to this guy.
I hope i came to the right vid to ask this queation but i hve caught walleye at this point during winter and now they are not biteing there anymore...and im hveing trouble tryna find these great tasting fish...i live in canada ontario 80 kms from kenora and totally clueless where i can find and get these fish during the 1st week of march..eg.)are they deeper or did they go to some river or what i dont know hehe but hope someone helps me ..thanks in advace!!
I realize you wouldn't want to keep these nice females, but during ice fishing do the regular limits apply on walleye like during the soft water season?
Great Fish by the way.
When we go up to Minnesota that's how we catch them. Perch fish during the day to find the spot that has the most then come back at night and catch nice eyes
nice catch and release
