PAF's F-86F Sabre draws first Aerial Victory - April 10, 1959

First PAF jet fighter to shoot down an enemy aircraft was F-86F Sabre No. 55-005 of No. 15 Squadron, the unit also known as the "Cobras". Flying this aircraft, Flight Lieutenant M Younis downed an Indian Air Force Canberra while it was on a photo reconnaissance mission high over the Rawalpindi area on April 10, 1959, an Eid day. Pilot Officer Rab Nawaz was the Air Defence Controller on radar for this mission.

Whereupon the Government of India recognized the accession of the erstwhile princely state to India, which became the new Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir, Indian troops were sent to the state to defend it against the Paki forces. Here's a lil history lesson for you bro.. When British forces withdrew the Princely state of Kashmir was invaded by Pashtun tribals from the North West Frontier Province (NWFP).

Fearing that Hari Singh's forces would be unable to withstand the assault, the Maharaja asked for Indian military assistance. India set a condition that Kashmir must accede to India for it to receive assistance.
