Because the Ranger is in the blood of America. He is the spirit of the law in the west, the east, the north and the south. He is the man of order in a world that is cold as ice. He is a streak of silver in a world of charcoal. He is... the Lone Ranger. It's understandable to get chills.
On a less grandiose note... He's the Wild West Batman. This is amazing.

As a child, my husband used to get up early on the weekends to watch this... had the toy cap guns, even practiced drawing his gun with lightening speed, had a fringed western cowboy shirt with white piping and to complete his outfit, real cowboy boots (three sizes too big)

I love this flick. But I like Tonto even more. I think he stole the show just like
Kato.did from the Green Hornet. That really dates me. Best

I heard Ben Mankiewicz, from Turner Classic Movies, say it best. "Before we (the movie industry) found out how to blow up buildings, we made movies that brought characters to life." Same was true about TV.

"Return with us to the days of yester-year..." What ever happened to entertainment?! We've gone off the track big time and have ended up in a swamp. That's what me thinks, anyway.

His actions stand for something innate in Man a need to overcome ourselves and be the hero in all of us. Thats why you get goosebumps.
