An artificial passenger (AP) is a device that is used in a motor vehicle to make sure that the driver stays awake. It holds a conversation with a driver, tells jokes and asks questions to determine whether the driver can respond alertly enough. An artificial passenger uses a microphone for the driver and a speech generator and the vehicle's audio speakers to converse with the driver. The conversation is based on a personalized profile of the driver. A voice analyzer evaluates whether the driver was becoming drowsy. If a driver seemed to display too much fatigue, the artificial passenger might be programmed to open all the windows, sound a buzzer, increase background music volume, or even spray the driver with ice water.

They sell a item you put around your ear like cell phone and if it tilts off balance it beeps loud waking you up saving you from big problems. It has been many magazines for years in the back with other adds. The dollar store has a similar device depending on where you look in the county.
