@smithrgdcfm Hi, First let me say I am 87 years young. I grew up loving big bands and of course still do. I was wrong to reffer to it as noise, but fast tempo and loud volume do not necessarily make good music. (swing) Listen to Benny Goodmans version of "Bugle
Rag", It is neat, clean and unclutterd, and above all......it SWINGS I love most of the big bands including Miller. Stay well friend.
@TheBernie2201 Bernie, how can you call this noise. The best big band soloists are featured in this flagwaver. Tex Beneke, Al Klink, Ernie Caceres, Glenn Miller, and of course Mo Purtill on drums. Every swing band had charts like this that were visuals as well. This is artistry, Bernie. You must be new to big bands. Basie, Ellington, James, Dorsey, Shaw, etc. They all had arrangements like this. GREATNESS!!
I have an old Bluebird 78 of this which is cleaner and with the lengthy Purtill drum solo and the amazing Klink tenor break at the beginning. I continue to look for it. I have not found a reissue of that version, however. What a great piece!
This is a classic! The Miller band would often put on a floor show when playing this swing classic. However, this is really fast version of this song, but I bet the band had fun with it.
