In his Spring/Summer 2009 Men's Collection Stefano Pilati considers masculinity in social and psychoanalytic therms through film and its cinematic language. In every gesture - fabrication, weight, color, image -
Pilati poses an essential question about identity as it relates to social constructs of gender. Who are we beyond our physiology, beyond the truths we are taught by genetics and biology? What reality exists between masculine and feminine ideals? more than a visual treatise on the androgyne, the collection and its presentation suggest that fluid understandings of self and the performance of gender are part of the contemporary human experience.

ripping off from every artist around i find this video quite lame. who are the idiots art directing this? and did Laurie Anderson really give them permission to use "oh superman"? I am surprised indeed. She is way cooler than this! or at least was...
I love Mr. Pilati. I love new approaches to fashion. He has fatastic talent, and I love what he's doing with YSL. Perhaps the video could a bit better showcase the clothes? The cut of that white jacket is memorable.

Gah, how 1991! Did Judith Butler write the description? Are those out takes from Madonna? I'm all for exploding gender but let's not pretend this is anything but very well-trod ground, approached in the most cliched visual and written language.
I don't quite see how this questions the itentities of gender. Could someone elaborate? I understand he often uses fabrics associated with womenswear which are executed in a masculine cut, but other than that, how does this collection explore/present an understanding of self and gender? The clothes are so fantastic... perhaps, in future, they should be more allowed to take center stage.
