Lee Ielpi, president and co-founder of the Tribute WTC Visitor Center, discusses his book, "9/11: The World Speaks," which is being published on the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy. This book is a collection of just some of the more than 160,000 7 x 5 cards visitors to the Tribute Center have written to share their own moving September 11 stories. Many of the cards emphasize the fact that 9/11brought everyone in the world closer together. In seeing the selflessness of responders and ordinary citizens who rushed to help strangers and friends, people have been inspired to take on meaningful work to help others. Categories include: children's drawings, adults' drawings, poetry, personal stories of 9/11, cards written by friends and family of victims, cards emphasizing the importance of education about 9/11, cards written by survivors, recollections of the World Trade Center, cards written by Muslims decrying 9/11. www.911theworldspeaks.com
I saw this book at my bookstore and I fell in love with it. September 11th 2001 was my first day of school so it had a huge impact on me. I now have a slight obsession with 9/11 books and want to be a history teacher.
